the story of

ronachan house

it has taken 180 years to turn Ronachan House into a home to be enjoyed by many families and groups of friends

In 2012 a vision was born to develop a forgotten old Victorian mansion into a space full of wonder and delight, where families and friends could reconnect with their loved ones, with their surroundings and with themselves. It has been a difficult journey and a labour of love, but we are proud to formally launch Scotland’s newest self catering holiday let and exclusive use event venue in 2023.

restoring ronachan

Restoring Ronachan House, not just to its former glory but to be an even better and modernised version of its original grandeur, was never going to be an easy job and it was definitely not for the faint of heart.

Ronachan House had not only fallen into a state of disrepair requiring significant remodelling, structural repairs, and grounds renovation, but having been a residential rehabilitation centre for so many years was also in need of domestication again with complete de-institutionalisation and refit of its core vitals.

It was of utmost importance during the entire renovation project to maintain and restore as many original features as possible and in each room you will find someting to marvel at…from the unique original windows framing the spectacular views beyond, to the ornate cornicing adorning the decorative ceilings, there are countless treasures to wonder at within Ronachan’s walls.

Marvel at all of the stained glass intallations throughout the house, every one unique and special and used to drive some of the design and colour choices in the house’s final decor.

Colour consultants from esteemed Farrow & Ball were drafted in to offer their expert eye and ideas on what colours would not only best represent the house, but that would also encompass the importance of modernisation and ensure that the property was fit for current style preferences while nodding to Scottish heritage.

There are multiple open hearths ready with a supply of locally chopped wood for extra cosiness and warmth to exude through Ronachan’s rooms, especially during the autumn and winter months.

The furniture within the house is handcrafted from the finest woods, tiles sourced directly from a marble quarry and carpets a natural seagrass that ties together Ronachan’s rural beachside location with its calming interior.

Ronachan House isn’t a ‘home away from home’, it is so much more, it is the stuff that dreams are made of. Ronachan House offers you all of the comforts of home you are used to, all of the amenities and conveniences you need, but it also offers you wonder and wellbeing, a place to recuperate and relax, a place to explore and to try new things. Ronachan House is the perfect location for you to travel with your family and friends and loved ones, a place where you can reconnect with each other in a world where it feels like there’s never enough time.

Leave behind your world and welcome to ours…a stylish and comfortable modern Scottish treasure, situated on the beach with sea views, a short ferry hop from the islands of Scotland, and accessible from the city past some of Scotland’s most wonderful tourist spots and visiting places.
